Transfer station now open in Shawnee | Environment

If you are getting your spring cleaning done a little early and find that you have a few more items that can’t exactly fit in your garage can, you are in luck.
The Central Disposal Transfer Station is now open for customers.
Authorities say Shawnee residents who pay a City of Shawnee garbage bill may dispose of 3 cubic yards per month at no charge.
To drop off items at no charge, residents should bring the residential water bill and matching ID.
The station will accept many items but have issued a list of items that will not be accepted.
Unacceptable items include:
- Liquid waste
- Biomedical waste
- Infectious waste
- Used batteries
- Tires
- Oil waste
- Hazardous waste
- Materials contaminated with hazardous waste
- Radioactive waste
- PCBs
- Drums
- Asbestos
- Solvents
- Dead animals
- Concrete or bricks
The Central Disposal Transfer Station is located at 700 E. 45th St. in Shawnee.
